PPR Desa Rejang residents facing various problems

THE residents of PPR Desa Rejang in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, are plagued by a host of problems that do not seem to end.

Each day, residents see rubbish on the roof of their cars, including curry, used sanitary pads, egg shells and rotten vegetables as they rush to work.

The garbage is from inconsiderate neighbours living on the upper floors.

Site of problems: The PPR Desa Rejang in Setapak is near the city centre but lacks basic facilities like bus services.

To make mattersworse, there is a lack of parking lots in their area.

Regina Mary Lourdes,52, said many opt to buy cars due to the lack of public transport services.

She said residents have to walk out to the main street, which is 20-minutes away, to take the public transport.

“They told us many years ago that bus service would beprovided soon. They even built bus stops but we still have to walk out to the Air Panas market to get the bus,” she said.

Her neighbour, S. Thanam, 49, said the lifts constantly break down, leaving residents living on the higher floors in a quandry.

“Some residents even take their motorcycles into the lift, causing the breakdown. To make matters worse, they even leave the engine running in the lift, causing pollution,” sha said.

When they complain, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) office located in their flats take weeks to solve the problems.

Even during emergencies, like burst water pipes, the DBKL takes at least a week to fix the pipes, thus losing gallons of water in the process.

Desa Rejang Baru Setapak Jaya Residents Association chairman Ismail Shaari said the easiest way to ensure speedy service was by giving the branch offices at all DBKL low-cost flats the power to make decisions.
