Sewage water has been overflowing from a manhole near a road junction near Taman Connaught, Cheras, for more than a month now but no action has been taken to solve the problem.
Taman Connaught resident A.H.Leong, 59, said the first time he called Indah Water Konsortium was before Hari Raya to inform them about the problem but that they just ignored the complaint.
“The second time I called up, they said someone will call me back to attend to this but no one did.
“I was told that there is problem with the pump but why should it take more than a month to repair it?” the pensioner asked.
The road near the manhole is also riddled with potholes now.
Leong said the potholes were caused by the overflow of the sewage water.
“Being a retired civil engineer, I can tell you that the road is breaking up because of the water,” he said.
An employee of a fast food outlet said the situation had become worse than it was previously.
“The potholes have become bigger and filled with the sewage water. It also flows down to the East West Link,” the staff said.
A check by StarMetro revealed that the water is now flowing onto the highway. The strong stench is enough to put anyone off.
The potholes are also a potential danger to motorcyclists at night.
Some motorists were seen trying to manoeuvre around the potholes before getting into the highway.
Indah Water Konsortium head of communications Amin Lin Abdullah said the sewerage pipelines in the area were still maintained by a developer.
“We have already alerted the developer on the matter. It is probably caused by a malfunctioned pump or blocked by rubbish or oil discharged by eateries in the area,” he said.
