Civil servants, civil servants.... Where is your focus?

Judge for yourself

A year ago, a friend complained to MPS about the number of tables and chairs along Jalan Wangsa 2/6, which was just a narrow service lane in Wangsa Permai, Selayang.

She also complained that the hawkers were throwing their food leftovers into the drains. As a result, Alam Flora did the thorough cleaning up of the public drains there.

A year later, despite numerous follow-up actions by our Local Councillor with the Directors of Licensing and Enforcement, the restaurant operators are getting bolder. They have not only occupied one side of the road, but now, both sides of the service lane. One side is filled with chairs and tables, The other side is lined with hawker stalls. This creates a congestion in the area, making it difficult for people to pick up their groceries from the shops. Double parking becomes a problem, as there are not many parking lots left.

Anyone reading this blog would have understood what is the primary source of the problem, but judging from the response obtained from the Selayang Municipal Council, it doesn't look like the people at the Council know their job.

Niamah, lain diadu, lain dibuatnya.

Even though this complaint has reached Najib's office (najib@pmo.gov.my) and the Chief Secretary's office (sidek@pmo.gov.my), the civil servants at MPS continues to avoid addressing the real issue. Where is their focus? Why isn't the Prime Minister not living up to his slogan, "Rakyat diutamakan, pencapaian didahulukan"?

This is the reply I received, Niamah!

Mohamad Zin, Mohamad Zin, for goodness sake, try to find some more suitable places for these hawkers to carry out their business instead of allowing them to do it on road sides. Think and query your officers before you give an answer like this as the PRO of the Council. You are bringing disgrace to yourself, to the Council and the Prime Minister's own slogan, "Performance first, listen to the people now".

Are you or your YDP listening enough, Tuan Zin? I will provide update on this blog from time to time to see how effective is the Selayang Municipal Council, since it was upgraded to be a Municipal Council by the previous regime. Or, am I right to say it is still not on par with other municipal councils like MBPJ, which you should be emulating to some extent?

A video clip which was done by the Chief of Public Complaints Bureau, Dato' Dr Tam Weng Wah himself (someone worth emulating), yet no proper follow up action has been undertaken by the Selayang Muncipal Council staff.

Do we blame Pakatan for their failure to deliver public service? No, instead, we know who are the people who have to face the brickbats from the rakyat.

I shall talk about DBKL at a later date. Lots of stories.
